Stoneware, slip, oxides
37 x 23 cm (H × Dia.)
Drawing from the traditional Korean maebyeong, this vessel explores proportion and balance through intuitive alterations to its form. The shoulders are expanded into a rounded volume, while the waist narrows and the opening is reduced to a minimum.
The rough, layered surface contrasts with the vessel’s soft curves. It is built up through repeated applications of slip and oxides, followed by scraping, wiping, and reapplication. The resulting marks and layers are further transformed during firing, creating a surface shaped by both deliberate intervention and the response of the materials.
